Showers of Joy!!

My two magnificent bridesmaids surprised me with one AWESOME Bridal Shower today. Thank you to everyone who attended and/or sent along gifts. Everything was just wonderful, but what made the day truly special was being able to celebrate with and receive such joyful wishes from everyone.

Oh, and the Martini glasses & bottle of vodka will come in handy in the days leading up to the wedding. 😉

With less than one month to go we are right on schedule with wedding preparations.

This week we are meeting with the caterer and bartender at our venue to go over final plans for the Big Day. Without giving away too much— we’re planning on hosting one fabulous beach party to remember.

The DJ is stocked with tunes and the photographer and videographers are ready…

This is turning into a VERY d.i.y. wedding.

It didn’t take Adam & I long to agree on a design for our ketubah. Like most modern Jewish couples, we want our legal transaction to be a work of art that will be proudly displayed in our home. The choice of design was simple: Jerusalem, of course! The only trick was to find an artist that could replicate the image we had in our heads.

Ironically, when we went to meet with our Cantor at his son’s shul, we came across the exact picture we’d imagined hanging in the front hall of the synagogue. Introduce such a beautiful piece of artwork to the joy of digital photography, and you’ve got a match made in heaven.

We tried marketing the idea to one ketubah artist who loved it, but couldn’t take us on due to prior commitments. So, on to plan B: Share the photographs with a graphic designer at work and, voila! We were on our way!

Unlike the majority of modern ketubahs, ours is being created via computer, a technique very fitting to Adam’s character. We researched texts and put together a version that is a little Conservative, a little Reform, and a lot our own– something very fitting to my own character. Altogether, our ketubah promises to be exactly what we wanted: Something traditional, yet distinictly unique to us.

We are pleased to announce that singer/songwriter Avi Wisnia will be performing live during the hors d’oeurves hour (3 – 4 pm) of our wedding!

Avi’s bio, from his website:

Singer/Songwriter Avi Wisnia presents an eclectic mix of refreshingly original songs, finding inspiration in classic Brazilian bossa nova, acoustic American folk, 1950’s west-coast jazz, and contemporary pop. A wordsmith as well as a composer and performer, Avi’s clever lyrics give a knowing nod to those that came before, while his smooth vocals and deft piano skills assure you that this is truly something new.

Fans say it is Avi Wisnia’s live performance that really captures his musical virtuosity, his humor and his energy. Avi showcases his own music with unexpected arrangements, and he experiments with contemporary pop tunes from artists like Lauryn Hill, Bjork, Wilco and The Cure, stripping them down, taking them apart and reviving them with a new bossa spirit. Performing in both English and Portuguese, Avi and his talented ensemble also reinterpret the Bossa Nova classics that emerged from Brazil in the late 50’s and 60’s, revisiting legendary Brazilian musicians such as Antonio Carlos Jobim, João Gilberto, Chico Buarque and Paulinho da Viola.

You’re not going to want to miss this amazing performance!

Avi will also be accompanying his grandfather, Cantor David Wisnia, during the wedding ceremony.

We are so excited to be able to share Avi’s music with our guests. Please, be sure to allow extra travel time due to shore traffic and plan on attending one fabulous cocktail hour!
